Eye Examination & Imaging
Eyes are so precious and at Jackson and Gill we believe that looking after them is one of the most important things we can do! Our eye examination is very different from others because we allow plenty of time to get to know each person and their eyes. You will also get to know us, as we always assign one of our fully-qualified members of staff to be wholly responsible for your care. So, it will be either Hannah or Dan who will be looking after your eyes, and they will do all the clinical tests needed to ensure your eyes are healthy. We aim to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere and we treat every individual as if they were a family member.
We believe that if we are going to do a job it should be done properly. Therefore, we have invested in the latest equipment to ensure the highest standard of care. We use the Optos camera to take wide angle images of the retina. This process is easy, painless and quick – just remember to say cheese! The high resolution image allows us to detect and monitor retinal changes and is the gold standard for a thorough eye health examination.
OCT is an incredible 3-D imaging system which can take an instant scan of the front and back surfaces of your eye. It can also measure corneal thickness and look at the individual layers of your retina. Again, it is painless and is done within a few seconds. The images can be compared between visits to help us detect any subtle changes.
Using our slitlamp microscope and imaging equipment we can detect and monitor eye diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. If there is a concern, then the images can be sent to a specialist consultant for an opinion whilst you stay at home!
The NHS will fund a basic eye examination for eligible clients. However, we believe that in order to carry out a much more comprehensive eye examination which offers the best standard of care for your eyes, scanning and wide field photography of the back of your eyes should be included, and we charge appropriately for this service.
