Murano Eyewear

Backed by half a millennium of history and tradition, the name of Murano conjures up a vivid mental image of brightly coloured, top-quality glassware, made with flair and imagination. Today that reputation can be applied with equal justification to the eyewear manufacturer that shares that iconic name.

In a little over a quarter of a century, Murano Eyewear has become established as one of the brightest names in contemporary eyewear design. Driven by the imagination and flair of its founder, Italian-born Alberto Da Rin, the company offers wearers the opportunity to choose spectacle frames with pizzazz, sparkling with personality and a splash of glamour – think Breakfast at Tiffany’s meets Roman Holiday.

The brand is certainly one of the most popular with Jackson and Gill customers, and we are always happy to recommend Murano to those seeking something that looks a little extravagant, but at a price they can afford.

Description

The name of Murano is synonymous with fine glasswork. The small island of Murano, set in the lagoon of Venice, has been a centre for glass production for more than 500 years. To safeguard the future of the city the Venetian authorities banished the glass-makers to the island after their kilns had caused several catastrophic fires among the medieval buildings. In the centuries since then, the artisans of Murano have made glassmaking their forté, influencing production worldwide with their innovative designs and techniques.

Murano Eyewear is no exception, and perpetuates many of those traditions, but the link with the Venetian island is more tenuous than you might think. The company was founded in 1998 by Alberto Da Rin, who had been born and raised in north-eastern Italy, not far from Venice. Inspired by the glassmakers of his native region, and most especially the talented glass-blowers of Murano, he established his own company; designing and manufacturing luxury spectacle frames. However, he chose to do this, not in his homeland, but in England.

In recognition of the artisans who inspired him, he called his company Murano Eyewear. For the first few years Alberto was the company – he did everything, from designing the glasses and managing the order book, to making the coffee. His flair for creativity, and for achieving quality and great looks at a price customers could readily afford, soon brought success, and Murano Eyewear flourished.

Today’s frames from Murano Eyewear combine tradition, innovation, and artistry with quality craftsmanship and meticulous attention to detail. Designed to be lightweight, comfortable, and strong, these frames exude luxury and finesse, inspiring confidence at a great price.
