Description
There are few eyewear manufacturers today who can claim a history as long as Morel. The founder, Jules Morel, was born on a farm in the Jura Mountains of eastern France, and after helping the family on the land through the warmer months, turned his hand to making spectacle frames during the winter. When he set up his own business in 1880, making pince-nez, he effectively became one of the world’s first dedicated eyewear manufacturers. Today, some 140 years and four generations later, Morel is still leading the way in the design and production of industry-leading frames.
Almost as surprising as that longevity is the fact that Morel remains an independent, family-owned company. From its traditional home in the heart of the Haut-Jura, thousands of frames have been designed and perfected, developing unique eyeglasses that reveal the singularity of every wearer without constraints or barriers. Much of that work is still done in-house, and with a conscientious appreciation of the environment.
While creativity remains a primary motivation, there is an appreciation that this must be reconciled with the challenges of our time — a focus on sustainable materials, a reduction in the reliance on plastics, the need for durability and easy repair, and the fight against the obsolescence. The latest Morel frames achieve this, and so much more.
